Grace and Truth Link Up - embracing minimalism

need for less.jpg

I have a confession to make, it’s mid- December and my thoughts are already in January, it’s terrible I know. I’m curious, do any of you experience the feeling of clutter in December? In every way, cluttered thoughts, cluttered schedules, and actual clutter mounting in different areas of your home? By the time December 31 arrives, I am always ready to de-clutter and look forward to the “fresh start”that comes with a new year. In fact, this year my goal is to shift my family in the direction of living contently with less, to embrace the minimalist lifestyle. I have spent the past 6 months studying this concept of minimalism and reading the book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up and quite frankly, I am eager to get started on her method of bringing order and organization to our home and our lives. There are many great passages in scripture supporting the lifestyle of living with less. For example, in His Sermon on the Mount Christ tells us “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:19-21)” It’s easy to get caught up in a life where our identity can become attached to the things we own, I admit to this myself. But my goal in this new year is to own less, buy less, to focus less on material things and seek more moments with my family, make more memories, and to remember that my identity comes from being His child and my true riches are His love for me and the beautiful people He has put in my life.

Do you have a guiding word or a specific goal you want to accomplish in the new year? I would love to hear about it!
